LingoZ is an online community dedicated to the building of the world's largest dictionary, and providing a community resource for language questions. Based on the Babylon dictionaries, LingoZ already contains millions of definitions and translations. On that, every LingoZ user is encouraged to contribute new terms, and add definitions and translations for existing terms. We aim to show that a user contributed dictionary can be as accurate and of high quality as a "regular" dictionary, while allowing you to broaden and diversify the set of terms and definitions.
Format
Definitions contributed should be written in such a manner that will suit a dictionary. That is, they should be concise, and should address the one key problem at hand – what is the meaning of the term? Definitions are not the place to discuss issues regarding the term itself or previous definitions. For discussions, we offer the comments feature, at the bottom of every definition. In addition, we will soon open a special forum for general discussions about the LingoZ community and service itself.
Offensive content
Term may also have offensive meaning, such as being used as curses, racial slurs and such. At LingoZ we believe that since a dictionary is documenting language, not creating and monitoring it, these meaning should be defined and made part of the dictionary, but we will mark them as offensive. Further more, the definitions regarding these meanings should be worded in a neutral and non offensive manner. For example, the term "Broad" can assume the definition "A derogatory word, referring to women", but the definition "Woman" cannot be defined by " A broad" If you encounter a definition regarding such meaning that is worded offensively, or that is not marked as offensive, please report to our staff.
Adult content
Some terms may have meanings of sexual nature. Though we consider these meanings as valid, LingoZ will show definitions regarding these meanings only to registered users that have requested to view such content. Further more, the definitions regarding the sexual meaning should be worded in a neutral and non offensive manner. If you have encountered a term or definition that should be marked as Adult but isn't, please report it to our staff.
Response to abuse
LingoZ does not edit the content contributed by our users. We do, however, reserve the right to remove content that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be inappropriate, mistaken, and/or in violation of our Community Guidelines or LingoZ' Terms of Service. We also reserve the right to take further action against those who violate the Terms of service or Community Guidelines, action including suspension of their user account, and even revoking it.
Age restriction
In order to protect the privacy and safety of children, only those who are at least 18 year old can sign up to LingoZ.
Dos and Don'ts
Dos
- Be helpful – LingoZ is all about letting everybody know what everything means. Write clear, informative and concise definitions. Help make the world smarter.
- Be cool – Treat your fellow LingoZians with respect, even when you don't agree with them.
- Be gracious – When you find a good definition, give it the thumbs up. When you notice someone smart and helpful, let him know it. Gives the thumbs down only to definitions that deserve it.
- Be strict – Found an abusive or mistaken definition? Report the abuse or the mistake. Help in keeping LingoZ clean and accurate.
- Be correct – Categorize correctly, select the proper languages.
DON'Ts
- Exploit, solicit, or harm minors.
- Incite or advocate violence or harm against anyone of anything.
- Harass, threaten, insult, or behave belligerently towards others.
- Post racist, incendiary, or otherwise objectionable content (Please see "Offensive Content" section above).
- Post adult content or use sexually explicit language without marking it as such (Please see "Adult" section above).
- Violate any law.
- Post content for advertising or any commercial purpose.
- Link to sites containing virus or malicious software, or in any way interfere with the operation of LingoZ.
- Manipulate the pointing system by posting content for the purpose of gaining points, trading points, or by any other mean.
- Use the report abuse function for any purpose other than reporting community guidelines violations.
- Impersonate a third party, or participate as anything or anybody other than yourself. Open multiple accounts for the sake of point gaming or any other violation.
- Claim credentials or expertise that you do not possess.
- Invade the privacy of a third party by posting their personally identifiable information.
- infringe the copyright of others
