Portable Document Format. A system of producing documents for electronic transmission that retain all the features of the original document. PDF files are scalable. To read a PDF file a special software program is required, Adobe acrobat reader is widely available and its free. Many software manufacturers are now using PDF manuals for their products, these are easy to use and sections of special interest to the user can be printed out. Some manuals can run to hundreds of pages.

Portable Document Format

Le Portable Document Format (communément abrégé PDF) est un format de fichier informatique créé par Adobe Systems. La spécificité du PDF est de préserver la mise en forme (polices d'écritures, images, objets graphiques…) telle que définie par son auteur, et ce quelles que soient l'application et la plate-forme utilisées pour lire le dit fichier PDF.
